Shine On Brightly features Our Urns

We have been making urns for sometime now. I believe it all started with a neighbors horse passing on, and they knew that we fired some horse hair raku. We incorporated the hair from their horse onto the Urn and it was a rewarding experience.

Eventually this turned into something much more. Making Urns has been very satisfying thus far. Recently we have incorporated with the Art Agency Shine On Brightly. Which is an on-line shop whose focus is one of a kind works of art, which truly honor and express the qualities of the individual spirit. And we are very proud and fortunate to be a part of it! Making work with purpose and meaning is challenging as well as rewarding.

The 2008 Haywood Open Studios Tour and Open Studios Exhibit presented by the Haywood County is well under way. This tour allows artists to open their working studios to the public. The public can visit with the artist in his/her working environment and see the creative process first hand. See the artists’ work represented in the Open Studios Exhibit at the Haywood County Arts Council’s Gallery 86 at 86 North Main Street in Downtown Waynesville, North Carolina.

We may not have been making any posts, but we sure have been busy! Focusing in on our new lines, glazes and firing techniques. And really trying to market ourselves, with local galleries and online @ www.Etsy.com! Our shop is www.pagepottery.etsy.com. Check it out to see new work and shop around!

Etsy is an online handmade/vintage craft site. So not only do they have an amazing selection of art, they are easy to use, and also an educating tool for craft people. While it’s been keeping us busy- we’ve never had so much fun! We’ve sold several items and bought several more! And had nothing but pleasant experiences.

In order to prepare for our Etsy shop- JR built a photo studio! (Which we will talk about it in another post). But a good photo can only help when selling online.

It’s really fun setting up an Etsy shop! And I also love packaging so much that we gift wrap for free! But you can check out who favorites your shop and see how many times your pots have been viewed. And just get alot of ideas that you wouldn’t have gotten otherwise! It’s fun informative, and productive! Crazy!

Annual Open Studio Christmas Sale!

Its’ that time of year again! So on December 7, 8, and 9th we are opening our studio to the public for our second annual Flying Cat Studio Christmas pottery sale! We are giving away a free piece of pottery to everyone who came last year, or who mentions the website. Its’ been a really good year for us and we want to share a little of that with everyone who has been supporting our dream. Thank You, and we hope to see you there.

For those who don’t know, Flying Cat Studios is J.R. Page, Kristen Wineland, Susan Phillips, and Kim Dryden. Four potters who share the same passion for hand crafting pottery, as well as a studio which facilitates that.

New Additons to the Mountain Dinnerware

Each piece is one of a kind hand-crafted from white stoneware. All work is fully functional, as well as dishwasher and microwave safe. With careful firing my distinct glazes form a micro-crystalline pattern. This line is exclusively available in Asheville at Gallery of the Mountains located inside the Grove Park Inn

Wall Hung Art Peices

I did a series recently for my Graduate show coming up later this month which is going to be at the Arts and Heritage Gallery at the Grove Arcade in Asheville. These wall hung plates are a lot of fun to make with almost endless possibilities. They also have a more clever and simple design in which a groove is trimmed so you can hang these in almost any manner you choose. I would like to thank Benjamin Burns of SeaGrove and Gary Clontz with their help in this great way to hang pots!
