Fun with an Apple Juice Drum

Posted by JR on April 22nd, 2006

So after exploring many different ways of firing my pots, I am still in love with those that are decorated with the raw flame. This 55 gallon barrel once held concentrated apple juice. Now it is a downdraft kiln with endless possibilities of low fire fun. With a 15 foot chimney that pulls smoke and flame down through the kiln painting the pots with blushes of black and red. Kristen and I spent an afternoon and less than 50 bucks to make alternative low firing magic.

Hi, I am getting ready to fire my barrel kiln for the first time. Any tips you think might help? Did you glaze any of the pots?
